Have you heard about the Blue Zones?
Blue Zones are geographical areas in which people have the lowest rates of chronic diseases and also live longer than the rest of the world.
The Blue Zones was first "coined" by a National Geographic explorer named Dan Buettner in March 2000. Buettner conducted a study that shows how these communities collectively have a different habits that contribute to a longer lifespan. In this newsletter we're taking a look at what those a habits are and how the word of God relates to the lifestyle in these communities.

1. Move Naturally
People in the Blue Zones don't really exercise in the sense that they go to the gym, but they walk to school, restaurants, church, or to work. They use hand operated or mechanical tools when they are cooking or doing yard work.

2. Purpose
They have a sense of purpose, they can articulate the reason why they get up in the morning.
Psalm 138:8
The Lord will perfect that which concerns me;

3. Downshift
Though the people in the Blue Zones experience stress like everyone else, they have daily habits like prayer and meditation that help them deal with stressors.
Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God
4. Wine at 5
They consume moderate amounts of alcohol and refrain from over indulgence
Proverbs 23:21
For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags
5. Plant Slant
Residents over 100, stated their diets consisted of 95% plant based foods, and they consumed meat approximately 5 times a month

God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat
6. 80% Rule
They use different strategies to keep themselves from overeating; like eating slowly, and praying before meals. They stop eating when they are 80% full. Dinner is usually the smallest meal of the day and they stop eating afterwards.

too much of it, and you will vomit
7. Loved ones first
They have strong communal bonds; spending a lot of time putting effort into their relationships with spouses and children. They keep aging parents nearby of in the home.
1 Timothy 5:8
But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever
